One Health is a collaborative, multi-sectoral approach that recognises the close connection between the health of humans, animals, plants, and our shared environment. By bringing together expertise from multiple disciplines, it supports the research and monitoring of complex health challenges and the development of integrated solutions.
The importance of this integrated approach is especially apparent in addressing infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and food-, water- and vector-borne infections, which often cross boundaries between species and ecosystems. Emerging and re-emerging diseases further highlight the need for close collaboration across human, animal and environmental health. Understanding these complex transmission pathways and developing effective strategies for prevention, surveillance and control require interdisciplinary cooperation and the exchange of knowledge across scientific and professional fields.
Following the success of the first three Debrecen Online Conferences on Infectious Diseases in a One Health Context (DOCIDOH), the One Health Institute of the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Institute of Animal Science, Biotechnology and Nature Conservation, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management and the Centre for Metagenomics of the University of Debrecen invites you to join the 4th DOCIDOH in February 2027.
The conference welcomes researchers and professionals from across the human, animal, and environmental health sectors, creating an international platform for the presentation of the latest scientific advances, for exchanging knowledge, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and addressing current and emerging One Health challenges.
The scientific programme will focus on the following thematic areas:
- Data-driven One Health: AI, Bioinformatics, Metagenomics & Surveillance
- Environmental Change, Ecosystems and Emerging Threats
- Antimicrobial Resistance and Novel Countermeasures
- Food Safety, Foodborne Disease and One Health Supply Chains
- Socio-cultural, Behavioural and Policy Dimensions of One Health
For the first time, DOCIDOH will include an interactive online workshop on environmental and wastewater surveillance, entitled "Environmental Surveillance Quest: One Wastewater, One Health", organized in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). The event will feature an adventure book-style experience where participants will learn about environmental and wastewater surveillance, and the methods used for this kind of research. Participants will be encouraged to actively take part in voting for scenarios and giving their input on the situations presented.
